This plant is a native to South Africa, a real talking point due to its large exotic looking paddle shaped leaves on long elegant stems. The leaves are a gorgeous glossy dark green colour and the flowers are to die for. All Strelitzia will have some splits in their leaves as they mature, this is a clever trick the plant does to ensure that the younger leaves receive plenty of light. All part of the natural charm of this plant. This is a relatively low maintenance houseplant that offers a big impact.
How to care for your Bird of Paradise
Water: Watering about once a week in summer and slightly less in winter. Wait until soil is dry to about 2/3cm deep.
Light: Grown best in bright light and can cope with some direct early summer sun. If exposed to too much direct midday light, their leaves will fade in colour and often develop blotches, dry edges or patches.
Humidity: Brown leaf tips indicate that humidity is too low, they love a mist or a bathroom and prefer rain water.
Temperature: They enjoy warmth, about 16-20 degrees C.
