Schlumbergera- Thanksgiving/Christmas Cacti
Schlumbergera truncata is the Thanksgiving cactus. It is called a leaf cactus but is not a true cactus. Rather it is an epiphyte, plants which live on other plants. The leaves are broad and flat with slight serrations on the edges in the Thanksgiving vs. Christmas cactus, which has smoother edges. The flowers that appear in fall are similar to fuchsia blooms and come in hues of yellow, white, pink, and red. (ours are all pink)
.
They can bloom more than once a year too and often have years without blooming to rest.
How to care for your Thanksgiving Cacti -
Water: Water when the top 1/3 of the soil is dry, they unlike other cacti must never fully dry out.
Light: Happiest in anything from indirect light to some semi shade. Not a fan of full sun, it will scorch the leaves.
Humidity: Loves humidity just adapt the watering slightly if in a humid condition .
Temperature: loves warmth or average room temperatures.
