Aeschynanthus are found throughout the warm, humid forests of Asia these plants are epiphytes in their natural environment, which means that they grow on the surface of other plants typically large trees and draw their water and nutrients from rain, the air, or any debris in the area. With over 150 species this genus has a wide variety of features but are always trailing or climbing plants and typically produce red tube-shaped flowers that give them the nickname Lipstick Plant.

We have three types to pick from here all with slightly different leaf shapes but the same gorgeous red blooms. Which will you choose? The Rasta with its twisted leaves? The Caroline with her waxy tapered leaves, not unlike a hoya? or the Longicaulis with its slender leaves and mottled patterning?? A popular hanging plant and amazing when flowering!

How to care for your Aeschynanthus

Water: Watering about once a week and then allowing to dry to about half way down is best. Maybe less in winter

Light: Grow best in bright light, with some early morning direct sun. If exposed to mid-day full sun, their leaves will reden in colour and often develop blotches or patches before drying out and falling off.

Humidity: They love a mist or a humid room like a bathroom or kitchen

Temperature: They enjoy warmth, about 20 degrees C.
